Surveyor - Nisku, Canada - Weinrich Contracting Ltd.
Description
ROLE:
The Field Surveyor will be responsible for data collection and note taking, topographical survey utilizing GPS or total station, staking design, offsetting stakes, calculating volumes utilizing computer software and helping supervisors with various other tasks on site.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Field Surveyors usually work as a single person crew and are required to selfmanage their duties for the day. Direction is provided by the Lead Surveyor but may also be given directly in the field by Foremen and Superintendents.
- Provide detailed topographic surveys with clear and concise notes for submittal to the office
- Staking features within design drawings/files
- Verify/confirm depths of cover, excavation depths, etc.
- Complete asbuilt surveys
- Manage machine control equipment, loading files, checking and calibrating equipment, troubleshooting problems and the basic mechanical ability to perform small repairs (replace cables)
- Check designed surfaces for accuracy before implementing for construction, having the ability to detect any errors that need to be corrected
- Safe driving of a company truck on various surfaces
- Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the HSE department
Note:
In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (preferred):
Experience
- RTK GPS and Total Station experience an asset
- Civil Grading considered an asset
- Machine Control experience an asset
- Computer Drafting an asset
Skills and Knowledge
- A valid driver's license and can provide a clean driver's abstract
- Ability to think analytically and solve problems
- Strong written oral communication skills, having the ability to listen and ask questions to clarify understanding as necessary
- High level of attention to detail
- Strong problemsolving skills in a field environment
- Appreciate the time, cost, and quality implications of the role
- Ability to use own initiative, selfmanage, and prioritize tasks each day
- Ability to take direction, work in a team environment, and contribute to the success of the project
- Capable of completing work to deadlines
- Complete training and required valid safety tickets is a requirement prior to employment
- Must be physically fit and able to walk on uneven terrain for sustained periods of time
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is field based and is primarily located in the Edmonton area. This position works 10 days on 2 days off, approximately 12 hours per day. Scheduling is weather dependent.

$20.00-$26.00 per hour
