Proficiency in Somali, Urdu or French is an asset

Nisa Helpline is a confidential and supportive helpline dedicated to providing assistance to Muslim women facing crisis situations.
Our mission is to offer compassionate and empathetic support to those in need, empowering them to navigate challenges with resilience.
As a Summer Student Peer Counsellor working on the crisis line at Nisa Helpline, you will play a crucial role in providing empathetic and non-judgmental support to Muslim women facing crises.
Key Responsibilities:
_ Crisis Line Support:
_
- Provide confidential peer counseling to Muslim women facing crises.
- Offer empathetic and nonjudgmental listening to those in distress.
- Collaborate with the Helpline team to ensure comprehensive support
_ Active Listening:
_
- Demonstrate strong active listening skills to understand callers' concerns.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to empower individuals
_ Documentation_:
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of helpline interactions.
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality and privacy guidelines.
Education/Qualification:
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a relevant counseling or psychology program.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and emotional situations with empathy.
Skills and Competencies:
- Empathy and compassion in supporting individuals in crisis.
- Ability to maintain composure and remain nonjudgmental.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness of issues faced by Muslim women.
This position is under the Canada Summer Jobs program, to be eligible, applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment**; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- As per section 13.1(a) of the Articles of Agreement, youth hired for a Canada Summer Jobsfunded job cannot displace or replace existing employees or volunteers, employees that have been laidoff and are awaiting recall, employees absent due to an industrial dispute, employees on vacation, or employees on maternity or parental leave.
