Position Summary:


Applicants must be at least 15 years of age to apply, have a valid Lifesaving Society (LSS) National Lifeguard or Bronze Cross Certification and provide their LSS ID.

Aquatic Attendant, Lifeguard & Swim Instructor

Salary Range:
$16.55 To $20.29 (CAD) Hourly (effective October 2023)

Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator.

This attraction facility, features: 3 ft Waves, a 100+ ft thrilling waterslide, a sauna on deck, a small pool with therapy jets and a tropical environment (warmest water temperatures around), the Wave Pool is your next challenge


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


Aquatic Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around the aquatic facility, by preventing and responding to all emergencies and maintaining a safe aquatic environment.

In addition to all Aquatic Attendant responsibilities.


Aquatic Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching, delivering and evaluating the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life and Lifesaving programs in accordance with program standards.

The Aquatic Swim Instructor will lead specific drills/instruction according to prepared lesson plans while creating a fun, safe and positive learning environment to participants of all ages.

In addition to all Aquatic Attendant responsibilities.


All successful applicants must become fully certified with Standard First Aid, National Lifeguard and Swim and Lifesaving Instructor certifications prior to their second session of employment (3-4 months).

Employees are responsible to recertify all of their required awards before they expire.
All Standard First Aid awards expire 3 years from the date of certification.
Lifesaving Society awards expire 2 years from the date of certification.
(Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor & Emergency First Aid Instructor)

Once certified with the National Lifeguard certification, you no longer need to recertify your Bronze Cross.

Applicants that are fully qualified have a better chance of being hired, than applicants missing qualifications.

Please ensure you have a Social Insurance Number. This is required for all employment within Canada.


Education and Experience:

All Aquatic Positions require Standard First Aid with CPR "C" through a WSIB and Lifesaving Society recognized affiliate. Lifesaving Society (SFA preferred),


Aquatic Swim Instructor I ($20.29
): 16 years of age or older, Standard First Aid and C.P.R. "C", LSS National Lifeguard, LSS Swim Instructor & LSS Lifesaving Instructor. (#1 needed employment position)


Aquatic Swim Instructor II ($18.25
): 15 years of age and older, Standard First Aid and C.P.R. "C", Bronze Cross, LSS Swim Instructor & LSS Lifesaving Instructor. This includes 15 year old with National Lifeguard certification.


Aquatic Lifeguard ($18.25
):15 years of age and older, Standard First Aid and C.P.R. "C". and LSS National Lifeguard.


Aquatic Attendant ($16.55
):15 years of age and older, Standard First Aid and C.P.R. "C". and Bronze Cross. (All certifications are strongly encouraged)

Aquatic Volunteer experience with the City of Richmond Hill is an asset.


All successful applicants are required to become fully certified prior to their second session of work with their Swim & Lifesaving Instructor and National Lifeguard awards.


Required Skills/Knowledge:


Demonstrate and maintain the following physical standards:

Object Recovery & Transport:
Starting in the water, swim 15m and surface dive to recover a 20lbs. object from bottom of deep end, surface and carry the object 5m. (Bronze Cross = 10 lbs.)


Approach & Tow/Carry:

Starting in the water, approach 15m head-up to contact a distressed victim in deep water, carry/tow the victim 5m supporting victim's shoulders at the surface and head above the surface.


Spinal Rescues:
Starting in the water, approach a victim in water, immobilize, roll victim over and move where required.


Rescue Drill:

Starting in the water, swim to recover a submerged manikin 20m away, carry the manikin 20m with its mouth and nose above the surface throughout.


Speed:
Swim 50 meters in 60 seconds or less.


Endurance:
Swim 400 meters in 10 minutes or less.

Ability to perform rescue skills at or above the level of your certification. Ability to work as part of an effective aquatic team. Excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and written. Be familiar with and execute th
