POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Gardener to install and maintain the flowers, trees and green spaces on the property.

Gardener responsibilities include monitoring the health of all plants and greenscapes, watering and feeding plants, trimming trees and shrubs, fertilizing and mowing lawns, weeding gardens and keeping green spaces and walkways clear of debris and litter.

You should know how to use and maintain landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers and fertilizers, while following health and safety regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of the tenth school grade supplemented by courses related to the work and considerable gardening experience in parks maintenance at the Municipal level.
Basic experience in a supervisory capacity

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in gardening and horticultural work.
Ability to perform skilled and semiskilled horticultural duties below the journeyman level.
Ability to understand and carry out oral or written instructions.
Ability to assign, supervise and participate in the work of one or more assistants engaged in routine gardening tasks in outdoor and indoor environments.
Ability to meet the public and answer a variety of questions relative to horticultural work and park facilities.
Skill in the use and care of a wide variety of gardening tools and equipment.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

Pesticide Applicator's License.
Driver's Licence (Class 5) valid in the Province of British Columbia.

HOURS OF WORK
80 hours By-Weekly

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience as a Gardener
Familiarity with landscaping
Knowledge of regional plant life and local pests and how to eliminate them
Knowledge of synthetic and natural fertilizers and well the safety standards
