SUMMARY:
Safe City Mississauga leads and partners to deliver crime prevention services and initiatives for a safe city. Crime prevention and community safety services and initiatives take many forms including social and community development.

Social media has become an integral way of communicating with the public.

It has the ability to reach diverse communities and provide activism in the community regardless of social economic status, race, sex, nationality, age, or other barriers.

Your mission is to conduct online and in-person outreach to raise followers and promote awareness of programs, events and campaigns.


Reporting directly to the Executive Director the Coordinator of Strategic Communications is responsible for improving upon Safe City Mississauga's communications outreach.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

STRATEGIC PLANNING:

  • Coordinate and facilitate the activities of the Strategic Communications Committee to mobilize the Strategic Communications Plan for 1) participant/client recruitment, 2) public awareness, 3) stakeholder engagement and 4) fund development.
  • Assist the Executive Director and Service Area Managers with grant management based on established and new initiatives that will advance the Strategic Communications Plan.
  • Develops presentations and reports for the Board of Directors and other staff, as required, i.e., Annual Report.

PROGRAM COMMUNICATIONS OUTREACH:

  • Develop and execute citywide communications/marketing activities for the strategies designed to promote the organization's various initiatives, programs, and services with an emphasis on reaching individuals that experience a high correlation indicator(s) to crime.

Conduct online and in-person outreach for the Civics 4 Kids program now housing tutoring supports for vulnerable youth.


PUBLIC RELATIONS:

  • Research, write, edit, and post communications and marketing materials including reports, briefs, newsletters, publications, presentations, press releases and publish webbased and social media communications that are aligned with community development for crime prevention (resident, neighbourhood, business, school) that is effective, relevant, measured, inclusive and diverse.
  • Work in partnership with staff on major communications to volunteers, members and clients through maintenance and updates to the SCM website, Crime Prevention Management System, and social media digital assets.

EVENT PLANNING:

  • Work in partnership with staff for event planning, operation and analysis of existing and future events, i.e. Community Crime Prevention Conference, Community Membership Drive, Hero Awards, etc.
  • Review, update and distribute Sponsorship packages and other marketing materials for events to meet profitable fundraising goals in accordance with the organizations expectations.

PARTNERSHIP AND COLLABORATIONS

  • Engage with existing and new community partners and others to advance our Strategic Communications Plan.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, Marketing, Fund Development or Communications; Master's degree preferred. Other relevant education will be considered.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum five years of experience working with media and social media platforms to increase participation in programs, social media followers and event planning, preferably in the nonprofit.

SKILLS

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; Excellent communications planning and writing skills; Sound decision making skills; Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and focus on what is critical; Skilled in leadership and consensus building without positional authority; Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Safe City Mississauga office is located at City Hall. We comply with any mandates by the municipal government regarding the building.

Work from home is also an option once an applicant has completed orientation and is executing on the work plan.
