JOB SUMMARY:


The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator works closely with the Principal, Vice Principal, Language and Culture program Managers, Indigenous Support Workers, teachers and Tsleil-Waututh community members.

The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator will ensure the effectiveness of indigenous programs within the school by providing Indigenous knowledge and cultural support to the program teams.

The Coordinator will be responsible for tasks involved in the cultural program planning.

The Coordinator will work closely with the Language department and will have knowledge and experience in Squamish Snachim and Hequninum to lead language within the school.

The Indigenouse Lutrural coordinator will collaborate and facilitate with the faculty and cultural advisors, and the cultural activities within the classroom.

The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator will support and work towards aspects of quality assurance, as well as align programs according to the values, mission and vision of siʔáḿθɘt School and the Tsleil-Waututh Nation.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The key responsibilities of the Indigenous Cultural Coordinator will include, but are not limited to the following:


Administration:


  • Align and plan schedules in consultation with Indigenous Support Workers, Cultural Advisors and Knowledge holders
  • Monitor and support administrative aspects of the cultural programs within siʔáḿθɘt School
  • Create resources for effective language delivery to all classrooms including year plans, course outlines, cultural resources and supplies for programs
  • Provide indigenous cultural leadership in curriculum development
  • Ensure authenticity of cultural knowledge used within the school

Coordination:


  • Coordinate the planning for cultural knowledge and activities within all programs
  • Ensure the intellectual property of all cultural knowledge held within siʔáḿθɘt School is protected.
  • Protect and maintain the repository of cultural knowledge and resources (videos, material, sacred items)

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Cultural knowledge and cultural competency a requirement.
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field with 3years related experience working within a school setting; or
  • A combination of education, training and experience which siʔáḿθɘt School deems to be equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge in the field of Indigenous education.
  • Excellent organizational, written skills and time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically, attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated coaching and facilitating skills and project management skills.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team, taking initiative within set parameters.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including building community relations and working with students.
