Job Summary
The Social Worker I provides quality service to clients through the delivery of professional social work services in St. John's and area. The Social Worker I provides counselling, completes assessment and provides referral services. The Social Worker also manages caseloads and completes documentation.

The position maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work for professional integrity and practice issues.


Job Demands
Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.

Regularly sits to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, and to work on the computer.


Occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions; pushes, pulls, and sets up furniture for group work, and drives to conduct home visits with clients.

Regularly uses fine finger/precision work on a computer.


Job Qualifications
Graduation with an accredited Bachelor of Social Work Degree is required.

Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers (NLASW) is required.


Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.

Knowledge of community resources, systems and programs.

Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.

Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment and interventions with individuals, families and groups.

Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.

Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Demonstrated ability to work independently

A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
