Position Summary:

  • This research assistant position will include general lab managing responsibilities in addition to performing a variety of research projectrelated tasks.
  • The research component of the position involves joint work with the graduate students on the lab multidisciplinary research interests as well as major involvement in lab collaboration projects with outside researchers.
  • In this perspective, the applicant must have experience in animal work since the role will include assistance with mice colony maintenance, drug administration, genotyping related tasks such as ear punching, DNA extraction and agarose gels electrophoresis. Assisting with animal behavior studies and animal perfusion to collect histological and biochemistry tissue will also be part of the applicant tasks.
  • The research work will also include cryostat and vibratome sectioning, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, DC protein assay and some microscopy.
  • In addition the position duties includes: buffers preparation, general lab maintenance (for instance: organizing maintenance calls with facilities for building lab space related issues, keeping lab to McGill EHS safety standard), apparatus maintenance (regular verification of status of apparatus, organizing service calls for malfunctioning apparatus), ordering, chemical and antibodies/primers inventory, renewal of lab licenses (Animal, biohazard, controlled substance) and some finance (would include: reconciliation of monthly transaction, annual fund statement, liquidation/cancellation of PO and other related fund tasks) and admin duties (stipend forms for graduate students, organizing summer student position, be lab representative for FACC or EHS inspections). The applicant will also be expected to attend and participate in lab meetings and journal clubs.

  • Willing to learn new techniques
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Good oral and written skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office, BioRender, imagej and Graphpad would be a plus
