Description

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - AlumaPower Corporation

Do you want to be part of a hyper growth company that is reducing society's reliance on fossil fuels by developing products that use a revolutionary new kind of clean fuel?

If yes, you may be the perfect CFO to join us at AlumaPower, a well-funded cleantech start-up with facilities in both Sarnia and Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

Our breakthrough multi-patented technology re-invents the aluminum-air battery as a 'galvanic generator'- an innovative long-life energy source that runs on scrap aluminum as a fuel.

Producing only water vapour and heat as emitted by-products, our systems provide at least four times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries.

Our technology also uses post-consumer scrap, or "abandoned" aluminum, as a fuel source - displacing hydrocarbons and complementing other battery solutions such as lithium-ion.

As our CFO, you will be responsible for leading our overall Financial and Human Capital operations into our subsequent Series B financing operations and beyond.

You will be an exceptional finance and accounting professional, passionate about developing our financial strength, and hungry to help lead the scaling of our multiple-vertical, global, cleantech business.

You will have successfully led financing and accounting activities at other fast growing companies, with your career demonstrating the highest level of ethics and the ability to leverage various fundraising sources, including private (family office, venture, corporate), public, and government (e.g., IRAP, SDTC, SBIR, etc.).

Experience of these roles in both the USA and Canada is an advantage.

You will have a CPA or equivalent, (USA or Canada) and will be responsible for managing the existing Finance, Human Resources and IT teams to maintain accurate accounting, legal, systems, human resources and reporting standards (corporate, project and cost).

Based from your home office, in either the Detroit/Windsor, or Buffalo/Niagara metro areas in the USA, or the greater Toronto/Kitchener/Waterloo areas in Canada, you will be expected to spend a minimum of one week each month at either our Sarnia headquarters, or our growing location in Kitchener, Ontario.

Travel to other AlumaPower locations, vendors and investors across North America will also be a critical element of this exciting role.

Above all, you will be wishing to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment and have a hunger to grow personally within the company.

If this sounds like you, then you'll have the following attributes, experience, and skills:

  • Track record of leading finance and accounting operations for fast-growth companies, including the preparation of budgets, monitoring of expenditures, conducting variance and trend analysis, reporting on financial performance, and leading the financial planning, risk assessment and business modelling activities to ensure a clear runway to future goals.
  • Strong analytical, accounting, communication, and modelling skills with ability to understand internal and external value drivers, ensuring accurate and compelling cash flow, equity, balance sheet and profit and loss projections to senior management, board members, and outside funders.
  • Professional designation (e.g., CPA) in accounting, business accounting, or finance or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience operating, managing, and delivering results in a finance and accounting role.
  • Oversight of Human Resources and / or legal compliance, with experience in implementing policy and driving company culture.
  • Oversight of IT and IMS, ensuring sustainable solutions are implemented and that the needs of the organization are met through digital technology
  • Capable of understanding and managing tradeoffs and evaluating opportunistic new ideas with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to think strategically, innovatively and creatively using sound business judgment and quantitative/analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner, with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives. Fluency in French will be considered an asset.
If you're exceptional, then you'll have some of the following experiences:

  • Experience leading a company to go public, or a raise over $20 million of new funds through private sources.
  • An aptitude to understand technology products, processes and systems both existing, and emerging technologies.
  • Holding an MBA and/or a technical degree are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Canada-US cross border transactions and consolidation of accounts including banking and tax filing from our US subsidiary.

Compensation

  • Commensurate with experience.

Location

  • Home Office, in either the Greater Toronto/Kitchener/Waterloo areas in Canada, or the Detroit/Windsor, or Niagara/Buffalo metro areas in the USA.
  • Extensive, fully expensed, trave
