Controller
Founded in 1957, the Pacific Western Group of Companies (PWT) is the largest privately-owned people transportation company in Canada. PWT is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a financial Controller. The Controller plays a crucial role in the strategic financial management of our organization.
This individual will be responsible for overseeing and reporting on financial activities, including compliance with regulations, while providing financial guidance to support the company's growth and profitability.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance to accounting standards, procedures, and internal control
- Coordinating activities of external auditors
- Responsible for accumulation, review, and completion of all quarterly and annual financial reporting packages
- Managing the budget and cash flow process
- Responsible for processing of corporate accounting functions including AP, intercompany transactions, and payroll
- Assist in preparation and review of longterm forecast and financial models
- Managing the vehicle assets including processing of bills of sales and lease agreements
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
- Manage internal safeguards for revenue receipts, cost, and team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures establish (in coordination with Sr. DOF) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a required basis
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
- Responsible for regulatory reporting, frequently and compliance for GST and PST returns, T4's, WCB, etc.
- Coordinating activities with Government audits PST, GST, WCB and assist with Corporate tax audits.
- Banking Tasks: maintain wire templates, recurring transfers, bill payment vendors, process wires and bill payments for the PWT group.
- Perform standard and ad hoc financial analyses to support management decisionmaking.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant area
- Professional accounting designation
- Strong understanding of internal controls and financial risk management
- Proven, astute, savvy financial engineer who anticipates the future and plans the contingencies
- Excellent accounting, organizational and communication skills
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance to accounting standards, procedures, and internal control
