How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:


Major Responsibilities:


  • Lead and/or participate in daily safety meetings, including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles, backpack sprayers and other assigned tools/equipment safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved project design and details.
  • Ensure health and safety measures are met.
  • Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure safe operation.
  • Complete daily work reports, and project information records as assigned.
  • Conducts field work and supports the coordination of field work by providing onsite work coordination to the team.
  • Ensures quality control checks and tests are instigated, with records maintained and accessible.
  • Ensures the required site activities are completed as per work scope.
  • Assist with staff oversight, training, and motivation of junior staff in compliance with the TRCA Health and Safety Policies as well as all relevant Federal, Provincial, and Municipal legislation and regulations.
  • Participate in the collection of field data to identify and guide habitat restoration opportunities.
  • Incumbents may also be assigned other duties.

What will you need to succeed:

  • Completion of college diploma in Resource Management, Ecological Restoration or Management, Environmental or Engineering Science, Landscape Design, Forestry, Construction, or a related field
  • Pesticide exterminator license (Forestry and/or Landscape).
  • Knowledge of pesticide legislation and invasive species best management practices and are comfortable working with herbicides.
  • Knowledge of native and invasive plants with proficient plant identification skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to lead a team and participate as team member.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
  • Familiarity with mapping natural landscape features and reading maps.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification an asset
  • 2+ years of experience in implementation tasks in areas of specialization.
  • The ability to demonstrate strong problemsolving skills in a field environment; is able to break down site required activities and delegate and estimate time / resources / budget required to complete tasks.
  • Good physical fitness required for carrying equipment weighing up to 45 lbs for extended durations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, Excel, Word, SharePoint, knowledge of ESRI ArcMap and Field Maps is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation
  • Chainsaw operation certificate an asset.
