About the Position
The Centre for Trades and Technologies is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual with excellent communication skills to provide technical services for students and instructors. The position provides support for all apprenticeship and credit programs within the Centre for Trades and Technologies by supporting instructors during lab classes, maintaining shops, shop equipment, preparing materials and shops for classes, and maintaining/ordering shop supplies and materials. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean, Centre for Trades and Technologies.
Position Details
The Centre Technician will be responsible for the following duties which include, but are not limited to:
- Providing support for student issues as they arise – purchasing office and shop supplies.
- Purchasing materials for shop use, and tracking of purchases to ensure their timely arrival.
- Maintain, clean, repair when possible, arrange for repair, and storage of shop tools and equipment.
- Build teaching aids, jigs, and shop fixtures as required by instructors or the institution for the labs and classrooms.
- Arrange and coordinate material delivery.
- Submit requests for purchasing of supplies, material, and equipment.
- Maintaining inventory levels of equipment, supplies, and consumables.
- Maintenance of storage areas.
- Regular equipment maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
- General shop maintenance and cleanliness.
- Arrange and coordinate delivery of materials.
- Fabrication of equipment as required by instructors (utilizing equipment such as the lathe, milling table, saw, and ironworker, etc.).
- Organize and store all printed materials, warranties, equipment manuals/maintenance materials for all tools and equipment in the areas.
- Catalogue equipment (label for inventory) and replace as necessary all tools and equipment in the Trades shops and Support Shop areas.
- Fabrication of teaching aids as required.
- Supply requisitions through LP's Datatel system.
- Department MasterCard management and administration.
- Pick up emergency items from suppliers using department credit card.
- Forklift operation (as required for maintenance/housekeeping in shop areas).
- Overhead crane operation.
- Maintaining WHIMIS and MSDS manuals.
- Attend staff meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Journeyman Certificate in Welding or Millwright, plus five (5) years of experience
- Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Applicants should have computer experience for handling purchasing online, strong organization skills for store inventory for shops
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Diverse industry experience, fabrication experience, CNC equipment experience
- Additional journeyman certifications
Salary
AUPE Class Level 10 Step 1 $60,889.10 per annum.
