    Opportunity

    MacEwan University's Department of Communication invites applications for a full-time tenure track position as Assistant Professor commencing July 1, 2024. This new journalism faculty position will play an important role in teaching multiple courses in the Bachelor of Communication Studies (BCS) degree major.

    The successful applicant will hold a minimum of a master's degree in journalism or a related field (PhD preferred) and will have teaching experience in a post-secondary setting or similar professional roles mentoring/supervising young journalists. Reporting experience is required, as is experience with multiplatform digital news reporting and production (audio, video, and social media). Applicants should have strong knowledge of and the ability to teach newswriting and reporting classes as well as introductory digital audio and video production courses, and must be able to teach students how to report on diverse communities. The position requires strong knowledge of and the ability to teach Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Audition, and other programs in the Adobe Creative Suite, plus working knowledge with a CMS (Content Management System), WordPress preferred.

    Applicants must be able to work effectively with colleagues in a collaborative setting and to adapt to a changing media landscape as evidenced by sustained professional development. Applicants must articulate a research and creative practice plan consistent with the University mandate (research skills preferred).
