The City of Calgary Composting Facility is a $143 Million
- dollar facility that opened its operations on July 18, 2017. It is located adjacent to the Shepard Waste Management Facility, south of 114th Avenue and 68 Street. SE.

Heavy Equipment Technician Profile:


  • Collaborate with the maintenance and operations team to develop and deliver a proactive monitoring system and support model for the maintenance of all below noted equipment including preventative maintenance inspections, repairs and replacements, equipment performance and uptime and overall cleanliness.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using appropriate manuals and testing equipment to determine extent of repair required to provide a timely solution to minimize equipment and operating downtime.
  • Repair and replace defective parts, components and/or systems including fabrication and welding.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance to ensure it meets or exceeds operational specifications and safetyrelated requirements.
  • Ensure that all work orders are accurately completed including those of 3rd party HET suppliers and service companies.
  • Develop and maintain a service record catalogue and database for all areas noted above to ensure proper records management.
  • Maintain a high standard of organization and cleanliness in all work areas within the Facility and around the property including tools, equipment, shop supplies and maintenance shipping/receiving areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Site Equipment:

The Heavy Equipment Technician will develop expertise on all electrical, mechanical and hydraulic equipment and infrastructure at the Composting Facility in both diesel rolling stock and fixed electrical formats including the following:

  • Volvo 120L, 150L and 180L Wheel Loaders
  • John Deer 744L, 824L and 844L Wheel Loaders
  • Cat 242D and Bobcat S70 Skid steers
  • Manlift
  • Mobile Crambo
  • Komptech MultiStar Screening System
  • Nemus Screening System
  • Komptech Cribus 5000 Trommel
  • Trisomat Flip Flop Screens
  • Electric Mixers
  • HVAC, Air Exchange and Blower Systems
  • AEC Wet Acid Scrubbers
  • SCADA, PLC and Instrumentation Systems

Qualifications:


  • Possess own complete set of necessary tools and toolbox.
  • Red Seal Journeyman/Journeywoman Certificate as Heavy Equipment Technician.
  • 4 Years Heavy Equipment Shop and/or field work experience.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and technical skills.

Working Conditions:


  • Odorous environment.
  • Frequent exposure to excessive noise, dirt, and dust.
  • Repetitive lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Working at heights and confined spaces.
  • Work is mostly inside facility but occasionally outside.
  • Fast paced environment.
  • Hours of work will be 40 hours per week with shift starting at 6.00 am.
  • Availability to work overtime and flexible shifts when required, including oncall and weekends.

Pay:
$43.00-$45.00 per hour
