CFX Supervisor - Greater Vancouver Regional District, BC, Canada - WildBrain

WildBrain is seeking a CFX Supervisor to join our Studio. As a **CFX Supervisor**, you will play a key role in developing new processes and standards to drive innovation, quality, efficiency, and advancement within our CFX department.

This pivotal position will be instrumental in initiating and expanding our CFX department, influencing and supervising CFX rig simulations, and implementing best practices for high-quality production workflows.

Reporting to the VP of Production Technology, the **CFX Supervisor** holds the ultimate responsibility for setting the course of our CG CFX department. You will be overseeing productions that require CFX, either directly or through delegated reports.

• Create character effects simulation rigs and libraries, encompassing cloth, skin, muscle systems, and dynamic interactions within environments and characters.
• Define and reassess CFX processes, workflows, and tools to enhance the CFX department's capabilities alongside production and pipeline teams.
• Improve best practices and document procedures for the CFX department.
• Collaborate with other Department Heads to ensure cohesive teamwork and alignment towards shared objectives and deadlines.
• Develop training materials and establish a Wiki for process documentation.
• Aid in recruiting and expanding the CFX department for optimal production support.
• Mentor and communicate with the CFX teams to foster a high-functioning, growth-oriented team culture.
• Provide feedback, assessments, and suggestions to Senior Management for enhancing Groom pipeline quality and performance.
• Participate in project bidding by defining capabilities, infrastructure requirements, costs, and processes.
• Assign tasks and provide guidance on CFX team submissions.

What You'll Bring:

• Over 5 years of experience leading and supervising CFX or Rigging teams in film and TV.
• Demonstrable expertise in modern CFX practices using tools like Houdini, Maya, Nuke, or Unreal to solve complex CFX challenges efficiently.
• Thorough understanding of cloth simulation and proficiency in muscle, skin, fat, hair, and fur simulations.
• Ability to develop and deploy scalable CFX simulation rigs and libraries.
• Comprehensive knowledge of CG pipelines and workflows.
• A desire to nurture and guide others to excel as supervisors and artists.
• Familiarity with Flow Production Tracking (formerly ShotGrid).

• Experience in studios managing multiple simultaneous projects.
• Proficiency in Python or other object-oriented programming languages.
• Experience in defining and collaborating on professional tools and software.
