The Professional Practice Leader (PPL) is a dynamic and corporate leadership position.

As a corporate resource, you will ensure practice, education, evidence based care and process standardization where appropriate across programs and health systems.

Your responsibility as a PPL will be to facilitate excellence in patient care through collaboration, communication and support of nursing practice and education initiatives to ensure best practice and quality care.

You will act as a central corporate practice and education resource for nursing to support knowledge to practice.


Accountabilities:

  • Nursing practice standards and document development
  • Critical appraisal of research
  • Knowledge and implication of relevant health care legislation and changes
  • Quality improvement and patient safety
  • Lean methodology
  • Ongoing/continuing professional development
  • Ensures that patient care activities are consistent with the philosophy, goals, standard of care and standards of practice of the discipline team and Osler
  • Collaborates with Osler leaders related to all practice issues and supports to guide clinical decision making for all team members
  • Ensures that nursing staff members are appropriately orientated and educated regarding to changes as they related to policy and clinical decision tools
  • Supports development and ongoing attainment of core and unit based competencies
  • Integration of new processes and equipment
  • Collaborates with patient care managers and other leaders to identify areas for practice improvement
  • Maintains active dialogue with nursing staff and, where appropriate, facilitates cooperation in developing, implementing, integrating and modifying nursing practice and team processes to meet patient care needs and outcomes
  • Supports nursing electronic documentation and clinical informatics

Qualifications

  • Current registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum five years recent clinical experience in a hospital setting
  • BScN required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Certification in specialist area(s) desirable or demonstrated ongoing continuing education
  • Experience in development of policies and procedures an asset
  • Experience in adult education an asset
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, critical thinking, project management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate, develop, plan and deliver educational material based on evidencebased practice
  • Highly motivated, selfdirected with demonstrated ability to provide leadership within an interdisciplinary team
  • Previous leadership roles an asset
  • Project management experience an asset
  • Fluent in English (comprehension, reading, writing and speaking)
  • Computer literacy and skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Required to work and travel between all Osler sites
  • Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration
