Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of the CPIC Supervisor, relays information from the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database, as well asinformation from the Integrated Electronic Information System (IEIS) system and SGI, via radio communication and a counter inquiryservice.
- Accesses information from CPIC, IEIS and SGI and relays that information to support police investigations and other authorized authorities. Codes information relayed via radio communication to maintain security of information dispersed.
- Receives, enters, queries and confirms priority entries (e.g. Criminal Code 'priority' warrants including threatening, fear of injury,unlawfully at large, escapee, and warrants of apprehension and suspension, etc.) as well as non-priority property entries. Modifies criminal code warrants. Assists with modification of HTA warrants as time permits.
- Answers inquiries and relays information authorized for release to other police agencies. Validates legal documents with otheragencies. Manages incoming and outgoing CPIC messaging traffic on behalf of the RPS.
- Validates CPIC files to ensure accuracy and integrity of information on the CPIC system, including purging of expired documents.
- Creates documentation on IEIS as backup files for CPIC entries as required (i.e. seized vehicles, suspensions).
- Contacts and requests service from tow trucks. Faxes information to SGI on impounds.
- Provides assistance to Court Information Clerk as required, including retrieval of records for personnel and the entry of legal documents to IEIS and CPIC.
- Other related duties as required.
Competencies
- Grade 12 or Grade 12 equivalent and Office Education Certificate or equivalent.
- Typing ability minimum 50 w.p.m.
- The ability to operate automated systems to input, store and retrieve information including IEIS, CPIC, SGI, Microsoft Office products.
- Detailed understanding of CPIC data banks, policies and procedures to provide a comprehensive and reliable information service to clients and to minimize impact on audit errors. Must take and pass the CPIC training course.
- The ability to use alpha, phonetic, and nine and ten codes for radio communication.
- General knowledge of the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Bylaws.
- The ability to access, query and retrieve and input basic information to IEIS.
- The ability to coordinate work schedules and time for maximum efficiency and productivity.
- The ability to demonstrate attentiveness, meticulousness and exactness to detail particularly in high volume work situations.
- Must be willing to work shifts on a rotating basis (days, evenings, nights and weekends.)
- Ability to handle multi-tasking and remain calm under pressure.
