    JOB OVERVIEW: Digital Communications Specialist

    Reporting to the Manager, Media and Communications, the Digital Communications Specialist will primarily be responsible for capturing and producing videos, photos, audio and other digital content to capture stories from across the university that enhance or complement media relations and communications efforts.

    The incumbent will develop and implement services for the Office of Communications including providing digital content, writing, social media, and communication services to Faculties, departments and service groups. The position will assist in formulating plans, projects and policies for the Office of Communications and the business units it is supporting, and perform administrative duties related to the role.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Completion of a degree or diploma in communications or journalism or equivalent combination of education and related current experience may be acceptable.
    • Two or more years of work experience in video, multimedia production and maintenance.
    • Writing experience with articles, media releases, etc. is an asset.
    • Experience in media relations is an asset.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Knowledge and proven experience of digital photography.
    • Knowledge and proven experience of video production and editing.
    • Knowledge of current public relations, communications and marketing principles, practices and techniques.
    • Experience with media software applications (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator).
    • Demonstrated ability to record, create and edit video, photo, audio and written content for communications or public relations purposes on web, social, traditional and other media.
    • Understanding of storytelling as it applies to various media.
    • Knowledge of short form video storytelling.
    • Proven ability to explain complex or technical information in a simple yet compelling way.
    • Experience writing and producing content for a variety of audiences – students, parents, faculty, staff, executives, external communities, government and media.
    • Knowledge of and proven experience using social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn and YouTube.
    • Knowledge and proven experience with MS Office, Google Suite, digital asset management, content management systems (Drupal and SharePoint), and applications such as SocialSprout and Brand24 etc.
    • Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail. Able to maintain quality control and consistency across digital content.
    • Proven visual design skills, with sensitivity to user-system interaction.
    • Experience in fostering effective communication within and among internal groups, clients and external stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to activate communication plans to support an organization's objectives.
    • Proven ability to evaluate effectiveness of communications or public relations campaigns using appropriate programs, research, analytics, and financial information.
    • Demonstrated ability multi-task and prioritize work effectively under pressure to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, under own initiative.
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
    • Excellent English language written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated self-starter who seeks challenges and continual learning.
    • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Intercampus travel is required.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.

    Salary Information

    Annual salary increases are based on hours worked and anniversary dates
