Reporting to the Director of Education and Training, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall design, delivery, management and organization of the Learner Readiness Program, the purpose of which is to assist students in their personal development journey and to assist them in developing and expanding on the knowledge & skills necessary to successfully complete Literacy and Upgrading programs.

Responsibilities of the program coordinator include coordination of the program activities to help participants enhance their level of self-awareness, self
- esteem and confidence, learn excellent wellness habits, explore personal identity, healthy relationships, increase their ability to reduce stress, build effective self-management skills and resilience and ensuring the successful delivery of programming to Indigenous adult learners.


Coordinating program activities to engage students to actively and positively participate as members in their community, ensuring that student support and involvement extends beyond the individual and into the community.

The program coordinator will do this by inviting members of the Indigenous community, elders and knowledge keepers, and guest
- speakers into the classroom, and by integrating community volunteerism, awareness and involvement into the program.


The successful incumbent will have the skills and experience necessary to play a major role in the leadership of the program, its staff and students and will ensure that each student is assisted with developing a sense of personal pride, responsibility, and a strong work-ethic.


Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver the
    LRP and ensure that it meets individual needs
  • Create a program plan which identifies activities needed to successfully complete the program and ensure they are in compliance with program objectives
  • Monitor implementation of program policies and practice
  • Create an innovative and supportive learning environment
  • Coordinate interactions/foster relationships between staff, clients, administrators and all other program stakeholders
  • Work to keep program on schedule, within stated budgets and functioning smoothly
  • Provide supervision, leadership and coordination to the
    LRP staff
  • Manage human resources issues with support from the Human Resource department such as; recruitment and selection of staff, progressive discipline, collective agreement, performance evaluations, payroll information, professional development, policies and delegation
  • Responsible for training new employees in accordance with established policies and procedures and reviews training policy as required with staff
  • Manage staff work assignments, workloads and work schedules
  • Ensure a welcoming, safe and collaborative environment for staff and students
  • Provide direct support to students as issues arise, identify required student supports
  • Advocate on behalf of students, including providing student guidance and academic advising
  • Provide purchase order forms and suggested resource materials
  • Ensure program resources are available and maintain an inventory of program resources and equipment
  • Complete required program reporting including statistical data, attendance and enrollment, student progress and partnership reports
  • Work in cooperation with other CAHRD departments, agencies and organizations
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of CAHRD
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • 23 years' experience as a Program Coordinator or relevant position
  • B.Sw, B.Ed, or similar education with some business administration training or relevant field, or combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated personal leadership and positive cando attitude
  • Ability to quickly problem solve and make decisions
  • Knowledge of program management and development procedures
  • Knowledge of budgeting, and reporting
  • Technology savvy, proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to work with diverse and multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent timemanagement and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Detailoriented and efficient
