Health Data Branch oversees the central management of the strategic provincial health data assets enables the Ministry to design, develop and manage essential programs and services for Ontarians.

Health Data Branch has a Business Advisor opportunity with the Data Standards team.


Data Standards Unit supports the needs of the health system and enhance the consistency and accuracy of Canadian health care information through the advancement clinical, administrative, financial, and statistical data standards

What can I expect to do in this role?: You will:

  • Lead and provide expertise for the development, expansion, evaluation, maintenance and enhancement of financial and statistical data clinical data standards

How do I qualify?:


Data and Information Management:


  • You have knowledge of financial and statistical standards and financial reporting practices (e.g. Ontario Health Financial Reporting Standards, CIHI's Management Information System Standards) within the health system
  • You have knowledge of clinical and administrative data standards and practices (Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Care Reporting System etc.)
  • You have an understanding of data governance policies, standards and procedures to ensure data quality and integrity to support health policy and program decisionmaking
  • You have knowledge of information management legislation (e.g. PHIPA, FIPPA, Public Hospitals Act, Fixing Long-Term Care Act) as it relates to the management of data

Health Care:


  • You have knowledge of health care reporting standards and requirements (i.e. funding, case mix and case weight methodologies, hospital performance agreements, accountability frameworks and decisionmaking structures)

Project Management:


  • You have project experience to lead, plan and conduct research, analysis and evaluation projects and balance competing priorities to ensure deliverables are met within set timelines
  • You can provide leadership and guidance to project teams

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:


  • You can consult and negotiate with business sector service providers
  • You can prepare and develop reports and recommendations, briefing and issues management material, reports, plans and correspondence
  • You can build and foster productive crosssector relationships with senior management, stakeholders and clients
  • You can develop and present education and learning materials to support effective implementation, use and maintenance of standards.
