    Job Summary:

    The Institute for Cybersecurity and Resilient Systemsin the Faculty of Business and IT at Ontario Tech University, has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) in the area of Cybersecurity for the automotive and/or energy sector. The position will be supervised by Professor Khalil El-Khatib and is offered for 1 year (with the possibility of extending the term if additional funding is received). The base salary for the Fellowship is $45K, and there is also the opportunity to teach up to two courses for additional compensation ($7,717 per course).

    We are looking for a collaborative researcher with an interdisciplinary mindset, who will make a substantial contribution to the institute, its members and partners. Candidates should have a background in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, IT, Artificial Intelligence, or Software Engineering, or a related field. The successful candidate will conduct research intersecting foundational and applied aspects of cybersecurity in various critical infrastructures, with a focus on energy and transportation. Candidate will also be responsible for exploring and developing partnership opportunities with various companies. Candidate will also be responsible for managing projects within the institute, in collaboration with industry partners.

    There will be substantial opportunity for mentoring junior researchers and developing collaborations with companies and other research groups. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in these activities, as well as advancing the institute's profile and its broader mission to become a globally recognized center for research and development in the field of cybersecurity.

    Responsibilities :

  • To undertake fundamental and applied research in the areas of cybersecurity for critical infrastructures.
  • To develop research objectives and proposals for joint research, in order to achieve the goals of the institute, and in collaboration with the Director of the institute.
  • To develop and nurture collaborations with partners, including companies, public/non-profit organizations, and other research groups and communities, locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • To disseminate research findings through academic publications, research seminars, online events, whitepapers, news articles, conference presentations.
  • To supervise undergraduate students and interns on relevant research projects, and to provide guidance and mentorship to graduate students where appropriate.
  • To contribute to writing proposal for partnership and research funding.
  • To undertake management/administration arising from research.
  • Education :

  • Recent PhD degree in Information Security or a relevant field such as, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, Artificial Intelligence, or Software Engineering.
  • Required Skills and Experience:

  • High level research and analytical skills, especially in cybersecurity and critical infrastructures.
  • Ability to plan and execute research projects effectively, including developing objectives, assessing time / resource requirements and risks, and using resources effectively.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, in English, through written project and grant proposal, publications, visualizations, and oral presentations.
  • Experience in preparing grants applications and research proposal is an asset.
  • Ability to explore partnership with potentials public and private companies.
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader research-related management/administration processes.
  • This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC.
