Reporting to the Director of Employee Relations, the Manager, Human Resources is assigned to oversee and lead the human resources service delivery for a defined client/program group.

Working in partnership with the broader People portfolio, the Manager, Human Resources will play a key strategic role in supporting the organization's leaders in integrating Human Resources best practices and programs into their business.

The Manager, Human Resources is accountable for partnering with client leaders within their portfolio to develop an understanding of their current and future human resources requirements, ensuring that human resources strategies are brought to bear on meeting these needs.

This contract position is until October 10, 2025.


In addition to advising, guiding, educating and supporting an assigned client group, the Manager, Human Resources will also lead a team of other Employee Relations team members, which may include assigned Human Resources Business Partners and/or Human Resources Specialists depending on the size and scope of the portfolio that they are accountable to support.


Main Responsibilities:


  • Provide coaching, leadership and operational guidance to assigned team of Human Resources Business Partners and/or Human Resources Specialists, including supporting the
- development of team objectives and work plans.
  • Through a strong understanding of the business of their client groups, provide strategic and operational human resources planning and support including proactive advice and solutions crafted to meet current and future human resources needs.
  • Oversee and conduct workplace investigations pertaining to performance and practice employee matters.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers on issues of performance management and discipline with staff including attending meetings, drafting correspondences, crafting performance development plans and other specialized performance enhancement and monitoring strategies.
  • Provide support and guidance on employee relations and labour relations matters arising from the administration, interpretation and communication of Collective Agreements, policies and relevant employment legislation.
  • Lead the full grievance process for assigned grievances including preparing, presenting and responding to grievances, and working in collaboration with Labour Relations to prepare for the mediation/arbitration processes.
  • Support complex workplace accommodation requests.
  • Monitor human capital performance metrics for the client group they support and partner with other teams within the People portfolio to execute strategies intended to improve metric performance.
  • Lead assigned HR projects.
  • Contribute to leading a strategy to build high quality human resources practices across and within the leadership team of Unity Health Toronto.
  • Participate in regular HR Service evaluations with senior leadership within their client groups for the purposes of continually evaluating service delivery quality and developing plans to resolve divergence.

Qualifications- Bachelor's degree required in Human Resources or a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a diploma or certificate in Human Resources Management. Masters preferred.- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) or equivalent.- Minimum five (5) years Human Resources experience focused on employee and labour relations, including at least two (2) years Human Resources leadership experience in a similarly complex environment or equivalent combination of progressive complex human resources experience in a transferrable environment and role.- Experience supervising/leading staff strongly preferred.- Ability to
- work in an independent manner to address activities in area of responsibility.
  • Considerable labour relations experience in a comparable healthcare, municipal or broader public sector organization. Hospital/Healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret collective agreements, manage grievances and foster strong unionmanagement relations.
  • Advanced level understanding of employment legislation including the _Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code_, and the _Occupational _Health and Safety Act_.
  • Demonstrated ability to support complex change from a human resources perspective including the development of human resources plans, engagement strategies, organizational design and plan execution.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills with ability to gain cooperation and build trust as a means of influencing outcomes. Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, communication and presentation skills required.
