'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School is seeking to fill a teaching position for Kindergarten - Grade 12 Sm'algyax Language & Culture Teacher.

'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo School is accredited by BC Ministry of Education Independent branch. The school is conveniently located 5KM west of Terrace, BC on Hwy. 16in the community of Kitsumkalum.


Tsimshian culture plays a vital role: Language and culture curriculum are designed, facilitated and taught by language instructor and resident Elder. Scope and sequence for language and culture will enable great collaboration with classroom teacher for integration of thematic approach to project-based learning. The successful applicant will have significant experience teaching language and culture and a high level of fluency in Sm'algyax.

'Na Aksa Gyilak'yoo focuses on collaboration, co-planning and co-teaching to effectively differentiate instruction and support all students.

Key Requirements:

BC Teaching Certificate (TRB)

Current Criminal Record Check

Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License

5+ years teaching experience preferred

Fluent Sm'algyax speaker preferred

Ability to use data to drive instruction

Ability to work in a culturally responsive environment

Exceptional communication; both written and spoken Sm'algyax & English

Willingness to participate in community and cultural activities
