- Conducting initial assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues]determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client.
- Providing spiritual guidance and using every opportunity to pray with and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients/families, enabling them to become part of the Body of Christ.
- Through exercising empathetic care, assisting individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviours. of the client/family
- Providing emergency assistant services in accordance with policy, (which includes food bank hampers, emergency shelter, emergency transport, emergency clothing)
- Maintaining confidentiality and keeping accurate client files (Link-2-Feed)
- Networking and referring to The Salvation Army, government, and community social services providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program.
- Serve as CFS liaison with Divisional Emergency and Disaster Services (EDS)
- Monitor the maintenance, cleanliness, and operation of the CFS Program Vehicle
- Attend the weekly friendship room soup kitchen and interact with clients.
- Ensure suitable number of volunteers for each week, (cooking, set-up, service, clean-up)
- Purchase soup kitchen food as required.
- Monitor soup kitchen budget.
- Receive required training from CRA.
- Complete online income tax for low-income clients
- Ensure accurate records and confidentiality.
- Complete required CRA grant applications.
- Provide leadership to Junior Youth program two Fridays per month.
- Recruit required volunteers.
- Connect with summer camp young people.
- Promote SA Summer Camping ministries.
- Assisting in seasonal or special programs (ie Christmas Kettles, Christmas Hampers, Toy Drive, Community Dinners, etc.)
- Have a related degree or diploma or equivalent job experience including experience working with multi-barriered persons.
- Have one year of prior related experience in social services programs.
- Be able to work within a faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision, and values of The Salvation Army
- Have a keen interest in the social services sector and possess a genuine concern for and interest in the marginalized of society.
- Have good leadership and organizational skills.
- Be able to plan and network.
- Possess good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Possess good interpersonal and conflict management skills and a willingness and ability to work under stressful circumstances.
- Be able to lift and carry heavy objects as required.
- Be able to maintain a high standard of confidentiality.
- Possess excellent computer skills and knowledge and use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher
- Be able and willing to work flexible hours; may be required to work additional hours during the Christmas season.
- Be highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Obtain a clean Driver's Abstract, Criminal Police/Vulnerable Sector Check and clearance through the Salvation Army's Internal Abuse Registry and be willing to sign The Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form

The Community Ministries Worker assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from or have been referred to the Salvation Army. This may include providing administration and operational support to special programs such as the Soup Kitchen, Income Tax Program, Community Youth Outreach and seasonal events.
