Overview

Reporting to the Waste Management Supervisor, Coordinator, Operations - Waste Management is responsible for assisting in the administration, providing support and management of Waste Management contracted operations.

This includes researching and identifying best practices to assist in diversion of items to the landfill.

The Coordinator, Operations - Waste Management is responsible in ensuring the proper execution of the following:

  • Liaise with outside agencies and the public regarding solid waste management initiatives and requirements
  • Manage and review data related to landfill operations and diversion programs
  • Assist in researching and implementing new technologies, strategies and program development related to the Long Term Resource Management Strategy, Organics Management Strategy, and any other Diversion strategies as they are developed
  • Participate in public related events as required to support waste management programs and development
  • Assist with the preparation of council reports and gather information for presentations to Senior Management and Council as required
  • Assist with coordination of all contracts relating to waste management
  • Guide and assist staff at the Landfill when required
  • Responsible for assisting the contractor when required with the maintenance of gas wells, gas mains, and pumping stations
  • Assist the audit lead or supervisor with curbside, site, or processing audits when required
  • Issue orders and followup on curbside waste management bylaw infractions
  • Undertake special projects and perform other duties as assigned, in accordance with Divisional or corporate objectives

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • A post secondary education in Environmental Science or related field coupled with several years of related experience in a municipal or consulting environment
  • Eligible to be certified as a Landfill Technical Associate with SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America)
  • Core competencies for the position include strong administrative ability, maintaining a strong commitment to ongoing learning and selfdevelopment, being action oriented while possessing perseverance to see a objective through to the end.
  • Bilingualism will be considered an asset


The City of Cornwall offers a starting annual salary of $66,810, thirty-five hours per week, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
