As an Operations Technician, you will be supporting Dedicated Accessible Transit Services ( DATS) section of the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) Branch and be actively involved with the coordination, resource planning and assignment of the DATS fleet of vehicles, mobile data equipment, radios and other equipment along with providing assistance and support to the Operators.


Your success will be measured by your ability to work collaboratively, respectfully and be helpful while demonstrating superior customer service skills.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Transport vehicles within and between garages, an inspection of vehicles and shop maintenance duties
  • Fuel, drive vehicles through the wash bay and checking tire pressure
  • Conduct trip inspections and perform checks on fluid levels, tires, lights, wipers, glass, and fuel
  • Provide onroad support for vehicle issues and breakdowns such as vehicle replacements
  • Work with Dispatch and Scheduling to assign vehicles and operators to runs
  • Provide DATS Operator support and assistance prior to departure and for operator shift signup process
  • Administer and assign coverage of shifts by ensuring scheduled routes are covered when Operator absences are reported
  • Assist in monitoring and training of modified and duty to accommodate employees assigned to Operations
  • Coordinate the fare handling process, both pickup and dropoff, and auditing as required
  • Perform Lost and Found tagging and logging for all DATS Operators and contracted Operators
  • Complete all DATS Operator payroll entries and audits
  • Support and participate in DATS events
  • Provide support to projects related to Operators and/or Operations Technician work
  • Participate in crossfunctional teams within DATS
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of Grade 1
  • One (1) year related experience in vehicle maintenance with some familiarity or exposure to a transit or transportation work environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Strong knowledge of Edmonton's geographic locations, roadways, traffic patterns, and driving times to assign passenger trips to vehicles in a costefficient and effective manner
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work
  • First Aid, CPR and AED training would be an asset
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and Google Applications
  • Assets:
  • Proficiency in Trapeze
  • Proficiency in POSSE
  • Experience in transit or transportation work environment
  • Customer service experience
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate verbally and in writing with preciseness and accuracy
  • Proven ability to solve problems and make quick, independent decisions for immediate issues
  • Excellent problem solving and customer service skills
  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in the applicable work areas
  • Ability to drive large vehicles in close quarters safely and efficiently
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the duties assigned to the position class such as moderate physical labour, including light maintenance and cleaning duties and other related work within an environment which may include heat, cold, wetness, dust, noise and diesel exhaust fumes
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fastpaced environment and within a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and serviceminded style
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
