*NOTE: This Unity Health position will be based at St. Joseph's Health Centre but will require assistance at the St. Michael's Hospital Pathology site, dependent on need.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform gross description and dissection of surgical tissues removed for microscopic interpretation, which includes selection, preparation and submittal of samples for histologic examination.
Assist in autopsy services to setup and perform postmortem examinations.
Assist in the teaching of prosection of various organs as required to pathology residents and rotating medical students.
Interact with the operating room staff and clinics regarding the submission of tissue specimens for processing.
Coordinate the temporary storage, retention and disposal of tissue specimens.
Working knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and hygiene.
Perform other functions necessary for providing anatomic pathology services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree/diploma and/or training in biological sciences, allied health sciences (MLT) or related field required.
Prior Pathologists' Assistant experience (one to two years) preferred.
Excellent organization, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
Must be able to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
