    Position Overview:


Calian Health is seeking a full-time Occupational Health Services Technologist with an interest to provide health services to Canadian Armed Forces members in their exclusive outpatient clinic located on Canadian Forces Base Halifax.

This role is ideal if you have an interest in treating the military population, operational trauma, and occupational health.

Occupational Health Services Technologists possess specialized expertise, knowledge, and skills in the areas of occupational health, and safety. Their main roles are to develop and deliver programs that will assist in conserving life, health and property. This is accomplished through the identification of health and safety hazards in the work environment and recommending corrective action.

The Occupational Health Services Technologist functions as part of the healthcare team by performing inspections of DND facilities based on established schedules to monitor compliance with laws, regulations, and policies and preparing reports outlining status and recommended courses of action.

Occupational Health Services Technologists are required to wear appropriate PPE in order to perform duties in a safe manner.


Responsibilities:

CF Health Services Group Instruction , Chemical Hazards Surveillance Program found at Appendix 24, and other occupational health programs for DND and CF facilities;
conduct work site occupational health walk-through, surveillance, and compliance inspections at DND and CF facilities;

conduct occupational health survey inspections including:
collect samples, e.g. air, soil, and perform laboratory analysis;
interpret and analyze sampling data;
liaise with accredited analytical laboratories as well as government and civilian regulatory agencies; and

recommend administrative and engineering control measures to ensure workplace compliance with the Canada Labour Code.


prepare and submit occupational health survey reports for each inspection to the Task Manager within 30 calendar days of the inspection date.


Reports must include:
executive summary of analysis and recommendations;
purpose of investigation;
relevant laws, regulations, and policies;
sampling methodology;
sampling results;
analysis;
discrepancies observed; and

recommendations to achieve compliance.

provide information and recommendations to senior medical authority on occupational health matters including associated legislation, regulations, policies and directives;
participate in briefings to senior management;
operate, calibrate and maintain occupational health sampling equipment and monitors and lab equipment;
maintain and order occupational health related products and consumable supplies;
language of work may be French and/or English, depending on geographic location;

the work may be carried out in various environments and the person may be exposed to high noise levels, heat, cold and wet/slippery conditions, and occupational hazards.

These conditions will not exceed what would normally be expected for the occupation in any atypical environment that are accessed by DND civilian/CAF members.

Expendable PPE (i.e. ear protection, eye protection, respiratory mask cartridges) will be provided by DND. Non-expendable PPE (i.e. CSA approved footwear and full face respirator when required by the nature of the DND space/facility being entered) will not be covered by DND.

Any requirement for full face respirators will require fit testing to determine the appropriate manufacture, model and size to comply with DND workplace safety standards.

Fit retesting will be done in accordance with DND policy.

While the contractor is responsible for the provision of the non-expendable PPE, DND will provide the expendable cartridges for the respirator.
