    REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Community Support and Prevention

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Child Minders deliver high quality and developmentally appropriate programs for children while their parents participate in other programs on-site. The Child Minder is responsible for ensuring the safety of the children in the child minding room, assisting in the delivery of responsive, developmentally appropriate children's programming with the materials provided, communicating with families and program staff, and working collaboratively with the other child minder(s) in the room to deliver a safe, fun, appropriate program for children. The child minder takes on tasks delegated by the child minder lead and/or program staff.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow the child minder policy and all procedures and checklists.
  • Work as part of a team with the other child minder(s) in the room.
  • Take direction from the Child Minder Lead and program staff.
  • Welcome families and ensure all registration, medical/ allergy, attendance, incident/accident reports are completed as required.
  • Ensure toys, equipment and the physical environment is maintained free of safety and health hazards.
  • Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and personal well-being at all times while in the program; know the number of children at all times (do regular headcounts)
  • Assist in room-set up prior to the arrival of children.
  • Provide a responsive, developmentally appropriate play-based children's program
  • Ensure that transitions and routines are followed.
  • Establish positive communication and relationships with families, children, other child minders and program staff; communicate and share information with families and staff before, during, and after the session as needed.
  • Prepare snacks as required.
  • Sign children in/out and safely ensure the correct person is picking up the child.
  • Tidy the room at the end of the session.
  • Clean and disinfect toys and materials before and after children arrive.
  • Maintain ratios at all time.
  • Maintain optimal performance at work.
  • Maintain optimal attendance at work and arrive at scheduled time.
  • Work in compliance with all applicable regulations and laws.
  • Comply with all Macaulay policies, practices and quality standards.
  • Work to further Macaulay's mission, vision, values and strategic directions.
  • Perform other tasks as delegated or assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Child Minder Certificate from an approved agency or equivalent
  • Experience working with children 0 – 12 years of age
  • Experience working with children with extra support needs is an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language is an asset
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Current Standard First Aid CPR Level C certification
  • Food handler's certification is an asset
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work various shifts including weekends
  • Child Minder Hourly Rate:
