JOB SUMMARY:

The MDRD Operations Lead at Unity Health Toronto - St. Joseph's Health Centre reports to the Manager of MDRD and supports the vision set for the MDRD.

You will contribute to the strength of our department through your commitment to efficient operations, adherence to best practice standards and guidelines, teamwork based on collaborative quality improvement and continuing education- The day-to-day supervision of staff.


  • Ensuring the timely processing of equipment and supplies necessary to support the operation of internal departments (i.
e. operating rooms, nursing units and external customers).

  • Ensuring the efficient operation of equipment and the MDRD.
  • Developing and maintaining inter departmental linkages.
  • Develop and implement a program of quality assurance.
  • Performing administrative responsibilities.
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as required.
  • Ensure notice given to Manager/Director of inconsistencies concerning best practice and all relevant standards.
  • Communicates with Manager on staffing matters, including performance, conduct and attendance.

DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises staff and participates in human resources management initiatives including performance/attendance management, hiring, conflict resolution, staff training and development and coaching.
  • Assists in the development of departmental strategies, goals and objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with the policies, procedures and standards of operation.
  • Develops and updates policies, procedures and guidelines for MDRD to ensure compliance with relevant legislation (CSA) and with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Provides schedule, orients reprocessing students to MDRD and oversees education for practicum period in conjunction with the manager.
  • Be able to problem solve independently and know when to ask for assistance.
  • Consult with hospital departments, vendors and Procurement Services on the purchase of new instruments/equipment.
  • Ensure all inventory is up to date and accurate in the MDRD/OR/Procurement systems (T-DOC, CPM & Infor).
  • Collaborates with other Operations Leaders/OR Team Leaders/Materials Management when there are changes in instruments, sets, locations or pick lists.
  • Update and maintain all count sheets/pictures in the instrument tracking system and inform all MDRD Technicians in a timely manner of said changes.
  • Ensures the timely processing of equipment and supplies necessary to support the operation of internal departments (Operating Rooms, Patient Care Units) and external partners, (Clinics).
  • Coordinates activities related to the preparation, decontamination, sterilization, assembly and picking of instruments and supplies for above areas.
  • Responsible for allocating staff resources through scheduling and assigning staff efficiently to ensure adequate shift coverage.
  • Responsible for creating staffing scheduling and work assignments and adjusting schedule as needed to meet changing priorities/staffing levels and workload.
  • Provide mentorship and support to colleagues.
  • Support leadership in achieving excellent patient care through continuous quality improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate by a recognized college institution.
Minimum of 5 years of recent MDRD Technician experience in an acute care hospital.
Advanced knowledge and experience in medical device reprocessing techniques including endoscopes, the utilization of MDR equipment, sterile technique and instrument/equipment in clinical practice

  • At minimum, a completion of a 2 year community college program or recognized equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills.
  • Excellent computer skills required
  • Must have experience working with an instrument tracking system.
  • Proficient in English verbal and written.
  • Be knowledgeable and demonstrate the Hospital¿s mission, vision and values.
  • Excellent verbal, organizational, written, presentation and time management skills required.
  • A MDR certification valid within 5 years from a recognized institution and commitment to recertification every 5 years required.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of CSA standards, PIDAC and MDRAO that are applicable to MDRD.
