QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university. (or be currently enrolled in required diploma program)

:


  • Medical certificate of good health.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English
  • Interest in working with the elderly
  • Ability to work rotating shifts
  • Multilingual ability an asset.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Combination of natural light and fluorescent lighting
  • Crouching, kneeling, stooping/bending for short periods of time minor job function
  • Walking, climbing stairs major job function
  • Standing for long periods of time major job function

Salary

:

$21.57-$23.35 per hour

Provides physical support and assistance to residents as per their individual care plans and as ordered by the Registered nursing staff in cooperation and consultation with the Physio/Occupational Therapist as follows

Participates in the restorative feeding program to provide training to residents to increase appetites, or provide training to increase resident independence who are unable because of disabilities, confusion, weakness or neuromuscular disorders

Observes and reports changes in physical ability to the registered staff

:

Assists residents in the use of restorative aides for ambulation, including canes, walkers or crutches. Provides gait training and walking programs

:

-
Assists residents in the use of ambulatory devices used in bed, to assist them in moving or changing positions safely, such as side rails, foot brace and trapeze

:

-
Coaches other staff, in particular new staff, in the use of hydraulic lift and demonstrates transfer of a resident from and to bed and chair

:

-
Provides exercise to strengthen muscles and develop endurance to prepare a resident for ambulation with or without the use of assistive devices.
Reviews and coaches other staff regarding positioning of residents in bed

:

-
Monitors and ensures that the mobility aids are in good condition

:

-
Provides ROM exercises to maintain joint mobility and prevent contractures

:

-
Assists therapists in the provision of care in assigned areas

:

Records statistics and keeps records as required

:

Establishes daily schedule for assisting residents

Attends care conferences as required and participates in Quality Management activities

Assists with departmental maintenance.

Provides psychological support to residents as follows

Participates in alternative forms of therapy as directed

Provides relaxation therapy such as calming, guided imagery, music, meditation and distraction to reduce fear, pain, anxiety and assist the resident to his/her environment.
