Junior/Intermediate or Senior Science & Technology Teacher

RHMS is seeking an Ontario Certified Teacher with primary qualifications to fill the role of Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM)Teacher. This teacher will collaborate with other teachers to use STEM as an access point for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking, to enhance our students' ability to take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, and persevere in problem-solving and innovation.

Responsibilities

· Teach grade 6-8 students our enriched STEM Program using the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) curriculum, text-based coding, programming and robotics.

· Use HMS Ed resources to enhance the Science and Technology Program.

· Collaborate and co-teach with the Science teaching team to ensure a seamless progression of the program.

· Create opportunities for cross curricular integration.

· Create innovative, student-centered and engaging unit plans in a way that deepens student knowledge and understanding and motivates them to be more self-directed.

· Plan and implement a robotics program that generates teams to participate in competitions such as Skills Ontario, FLL and/or VEXIQ.

· Host STEM clubs and initiatives to encourage students to participate in challenges such as the University of Waterloo's Beaver Computing Challenge.

· Use laptops and various age-appropriate technology applications to engage students in STEM and supplement the curriculum in a meaningful way.

· Plan and run an independent Science project unit.

· Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to determine if lesson objectives were met, and to assess student's skill development and understanding.

· Maintain a positive learning environment using age-appropriate and effective classroom management techniques.

· Organize the Lab and learning resources and keep theme-based display boards up-to-date.

· Maintain open, positive and consistent communication with students' parents by providing feedback and keeping them up-to-date on student progress.

· Provide a high level of customer service to students' parents when answering questions, holding parent-teacher interviews, etc.

· Organize and take part in school events, excursions and school-wide initiatives that may take place after school hours.

· Keep up-to-date with best practices in STEM education through seminars, additional qualifications, etc.

Qualifications

· Bachelors' degree in Science, with Honours.

· Bachelor of Education with Junior, Intermediate or Senior qualifications.

· AQ in Intermediate/Senior divisions Science (General, Biology, Chemistry, etc.).

· Computer Science and/or Math degree/certification an asset.

· Fluent in text-based coding platforms such as Python 3 and JavaScript an asset.

· Ontario Teaching Certification (OCT) in good standing.

· 2-3 years of full-time classroom teaching experience in science and technology,

· Familiar with Lego Mindstorm EV3, mBot, VEXIQ or other robotics platforms an asset.

· Experience in a private school is preferred.

· Works with a high standard of integrity.

· Excellent oral, written, communication, facilitation and presentation skills.

· Highly proficient in navigating Windows and Apple operating systems and SMARTBoards. Skilled in Google Suites, Adobe Creative Suite and Schoology an asset.

Additional Information

Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Additional hours may be required for school events.

Compensation:

Salary: $87,698– $110,880 (late August –June), subject to experience and education.
