Job Description:


We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as General Labourer
Monday-Friday, from 8:00am-5:00pm and every other Saturday from 8:00am-3:00pm. As a General Labourer, you will be responsible for providing support across various areas of our metal recycling operations.

Your role will involve assisting with the handling, sorting, and processing of metal materials, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work area, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the handling, sorting, and preparation of metal materials for recycling. This may include lifting, carrying, and moving materials manually or using equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks
  • Sort and segregate metal materials based on type, size, and quality, ensuring proper categorization for processing and recycling purposes
  • Operate basic equipment and tools used in metal recycling operations, such as balers, shears, cutting torches, or grinders, following proper operating procedures and safety guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area, including sweeping, removing debris, and disposing of waste materials in designated containers
  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures related to metal recycling processes, including the proper use of equipment, handling of materials, and compliance with safety regulations
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and industry standards. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and follow safe work practices at all times
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records and documentation of materials received, processed, or shipped, ensuring that all necessary information is recorded correctly
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations, effective communication, and a safe working environment
  • Assist in routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and tools, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Fluid Draining: Safely and efficiently drain fluids, such as gasoline, oil, coolant, and other automotive fluids, from endoflife vehicles using appropriate equipment and following established procedures
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards related to fluid draining, handling hazardous materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations governing the proper collection, storage, and disposal of automotive fluids
  • Follow established procedures for containment, labelling, and recycling of fluids
  • Operate various tools and equipment required for fluid draining, such as fluid extraction systems, hand pumps, and drain pans, following proper operating procedures
  • Verify the proper draining of fluids from vehicles and perform visual inspections to ensure compliance with established standards

Qualifications:


  • Previous experience in a physically demanding role, such as general labour, construction, or scrap is preferred.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks involving lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects or materials
  • Basic knowledge of metal recycling processes and materials is advantageous
  • Solid understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to manual labor and equipment operation
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently or as part of a team, and prioritize tasks in a fastpaced environment
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding situations
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse team members
