About the Role:

We are looking for a maternity leave Assistant Controller to start in April 2023.

As
Assistant Controller (Maternity Leave Coverage), your laser-focus is the accuracy of Alpha's financial reporting and the integrity of its internal controls.

You are excited to be hands-on with our customers, vendors and operations and executive teams, and you will have the rare opportunity to build financial processes and reporting from the ground-up.

About You:

You have a CPA designation in good standing and a minimum four years of progressive accounting experience. You have strong knowledge of accounting principles and concepts, and experience with ERP systems and internal controls.


Key Responsibilities:

The
Assistant Controller (Maternity Leave Coverage) is responsible for the following key business processes:

  • Manage, monitor and streamline accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, accounting and financial reporting
  • Coordinate an effective, efficient and timely monthend close process, including ownership of the general ledger, preparation of variance analysis and other relevant reporting insights
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with US GAAP, including preparation of supporting schedules, drafting notes, MD&A and other narratives as required
  • Prepare technical accounting analysis on nonstandard transactions and new accounting pronouncements, including impact on existing processes and systems
  • Prepare and review accounting working papers and supporting schedules
  • Process semimonthly payroll for Canadian and U.S. employees
  • Manage all aspects of the financial audit
  • Manage accounting ERP system, including being an active participant in the enhancement, maintenance and optimization of finance systems strategy and integrations
  • Establish and enhance formal processes for internal controls
  • Provide leadership to the Accounting Operations team, focusing on career development, continual performance improvement, staff development and succession planning
  • Support crossfunctional initiatives by assisting in the design and implementation of related financial processes
  • Enthusiastically perform other duties as required

Capabilities + Experience Required:


  • CPA Designation
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience as a people manager is a considerable asset
  • Experience with Netsuite is a considerable asset
  • Experience within the Consumer-Packaged Goods ("CPG") industry is a considerable asset
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to followup
  • Experience working with remote executives and teams
  • Experience in a highgrowth company is a considerable asset
