- Prepare renewals and quotations for health, dental, life, and disability benefits.
- Assess risk and determine appropriate rates for benefit plan revisions, ensuring alignment with established underwriting methodologies.
- Review new business enrollments to confirm consistency with original quotations.
- Maintain detailed documentation to support underwriting decisions and ensure audit readiness.
- Evaluate insurance risks and set premium rates for both renewal and prospective groups in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
- Generate interim financial and benefit reports as needed.
- Collaborate with other underwriters on renewals, revisions, and quotations.
- Contribute to cross‑functional projects and initiatives.
- Experience: Direct experience in group underwriting is preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in mathematics, business, economics, or a related field, or a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to support sales teams effectively.
- Excellent analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant applications; strong numerical aptitude.
- Attributes:
- Self‑motivated and eager to learn.
- Comfortable working remotely as well as in the office and collaborating via video conferencing tools and in‑office meetings.
- Solid understanding of group benefits; familiarity with Alberta Blue Cross products is an asset.
- CEBS, GBA, or other underwriting‑related certifications are preferred but not required.
