    Position Summary:Under the direction of the Manager, Support Services and Cook, the Assistant Cook performs the assigned duties for the provision of regular, therapeutic and texture modified meals related to patients/ residents, staff, volunteers, Meals on Wheels, Supportive Housing, Adult Day, visitors, and catering and complies with standards, Policy and Procedures and Health regulations. These duties include preparation, serving, receiving and portion control of the food. Duties are performed while maintaining high standards of safety and sanitation. Courteous and effective customer service is a critical component of this position. The position of Assistant Cook functions in a manner consistent with, and supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum Grade 11 education required.
  • Valid Food Handlers Certificate required (must be obtained within six months of employment). Recertification must be current and valid.
  • Knowledge in the areas of therapeutic diets and texture modification.
  • Minimum of three years commercial food services experience, preferably in a health care setting and or experience in quantity cooking.
  • Ability to operate required equipment.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
  • Ability to perform physical and mental aspects of the position.
  • Satisfactory employment record.

As a condition of employment, all successful applicants will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check (with vulnerable sector screening), adult abuse and child abuse registry checks prior to commencing employment.

  • Direct care workers are required to either be vaccinated for Covid19 or to participate in ongoing regular Covid19 testing pursuant to Orders made under The Public Health Act C.C.S.M. c.
P210. Successful applicants will be notified at the time of offer of the applicability of this requirement for this position.

Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to communicate in more than one language would be considered an asset.

Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.


All health care workers are required to be immunized as a condition of employment in accordance with the Interlake-Eastern RHA Policy (GA-13-P-110 Required Immunizations for Health Care Workers).
