Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Information Services team.


Reporting to the Manager, Application Data & Reporting, the Business Intelligence (BI) & Analytics Professional is accountable for the design, technical support and maintenance of BI solutions supporting all business processes within Capital Power.

This includes ensuring the BI solutions are well implemented, maintained, and supported, and are achieving the required outcomes.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Supporting highly complex and diverse set of BI solutions, and decision support solutions for multiple business areas.
  • Providing highly responsive and customer-focused BI and analytic solutions for business groups that are part of all enterprise business processes, and monitors performance and ensures high availability and performance levels are achieved.
  • Providing BI development services for both operations and project initiatives.
  • Understanding and following professional IT practices within the Systems Delivery Life Cycle; such practices include: programming to a commercial standard of quality and responsiveness, testing, documentation, and source code management.
  • Providing BI development services for larger initiatives or projects. In smaller projects, taking a leadership role and managing the initiative.
  • Providing expert technical advice to business stakeholders, senior manager and peers in support of business and strategic goals relevant to the duties of the position. Close alignment with our business is critical to the success of this role.-
  • With the highly diverse set of decision support tools, providing an overarching solution instead of problem resolution.
  • Ensuring correct execution of business procedures is executed with mínimal checks and balances.
  • Collaborating with other people leaders within IS and business groups to increase collaboration and enhance the offering provided by the BI and Analytics Team.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:


  • Completed Diploma or Degree in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems.
  • Degree in Business and/or extensive related experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • 5+ years' experience with design, development, maintenance and support of enterprise scale BI solutions. 5+ years' experience supporting enterprise grade BI and analytics environments. Indepth understanding of Business intelligence (BI) technologies and its capabilities (preferably focused on Microsoft BI technology stack). Indepth understanding of all aspects of modern analytics delivery process. 5+ years' experiencing delivering BI solutions to meet multiple stakeholders. Understanding of Power, Natural Gas and Emissions commodity markets throughout North America is an asset. Understanding of advanced analytics & data science techniques to solve business challenges.

Technical Skills:

  • Indepth knowledge of BI and analytics technologies with the focus on the following: modern data warehouse approaches (data lakes, cloud data warehouses, public clouds); analytics environments (Data Bricks, R Studio, Apache Spark, etc.); data pipelines, transforms and inmemory modeling / data engineering (MS SSIS, Data Factory, MS SSAS); Data Visualization (PowerBI, MS SSRS).
  • A good understanding of new and emerging BI delivery methodologies (e.g. iterative development, data engineering).
  • Strong knowledge of the Systems Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) including custombuild and commercial off the shelf (COTS) implementation frameworks.
  • System integration experience primarily with large, complex systems.
  • Understanding of programming languages such as (but not limited to): C#, SQL, Python, Dax, Scripting Languages.
  • Experience using various components within the MS Azure advanced analytics ecosystem.
  • Understanding of latest evolution in BI technologies in "big data" with data lakes, data bricks, inmemory processing, Power BI and other cloud based BI solution
