The Communication Specialist is a key member of the Princess Margaret Cancer Education - Research & Evaluation team which is the foundation for the Cancer Health Literacy Research Centre.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Health Literacy Research Centre conducts research that is focused on health literacy/health communication, self-management, and patient education and develops educational interventions to facilitate patient and family involvement in their care and to support the professional development of healthcare providers and trainees.
Effective education resources for patients and caregivers are based on adult learning theories, account for different health literacy levels, are written in plain language, and produced in appropriate formats to support learning and retention.
All learners at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre are increasingly accessing online resources to learn. The Princess Margaret Education program develops and provides education in multiple formats to best support learners.Duties
Qualifications
- At minimum, completion of an undergraduate degree program in a Health Science or related field or recognized equivalent
- Completion of a degree program in biomedical animation
- At minimum, two (2) years practical and related experience
- Ability to facilitate, influence and lead others
- Ability to write in plain language
- Demonstrated experience with video production including storyboarding, lighting, videography, audio recording and postproduction.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work with multidisciplinary teams in a positive and productive manner
- Able to effectively deal with high priority unscheduled tasks and problems.
- Understands how various issues affect each other and the outcome of projects
- Selfmotivated team player who can work independently
