EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The Public Service Commission of Bridgewater is seeking a responsible individual to fill the following unionized position:
Operator-in-Training/ Facility Operator I

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Meter Reader/Operator in Training position is a hands-on position that includes a combination of meter reading (approximately 4-weeks out of a 12-week period) and operator training.
The incumbent will progress from this position to Meter Reader/Facility Operator at the discretion of the Water Facility Supervisor and the Environmental Services Manager once the training period is complete and a Class I certification in either Water Treatment or Water Distribution is achieved.
The Facility Operator I/Operator-in-Training must possess the following qualifications:
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Successful completion of a twoyear technical program related to water treatment is required. An equivalent combination of related education and experience in a water treatment and or distribution environment may be considered.
Experience:
- Previous experience related to the position; experience in the operation of a municipal potable water facility would be an asset.
- Related experience in a municipal field or mechanical/electrical repair/maintenance field is preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may also be considered
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
- Must have the ability to obtain Class III Certification in Water Treatment and Class II Certification in Water Distribution from Nova Scotia Environment.
- The Facility Operator I/OIT must successfully complete the Operator in training certificate within 90 calendar days of date of hire.
- The Facility Operator I/OIT must pass the Class I examination in Water Treatment within eighteen months of receiving their operator in training certificate.
- The Facility Operator I/OIT must pass the Class I examination in Water Distribution within twelve months of receiving their Class I Certification in Water Treatment.
- Must possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver's license.
- The opportunity exists for operators to progress to a higher wage rate based upon completion of higher levels of certification._
Essential Skills:
- Familiarity with standard water quality testing procedures;
- Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, metering control systems and chemical feed systems;
- Familiarity with standard safety procedures including the techniques for handling and storing chemicals;
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Permanent, unionized position
- Wages: $28.78 $33.94, depending on certifications. The Town of Bridgewater offers a competitive benefits package including Defined Contribution pension plan.
- Fulltime (40 hours per week)
