POSITION SCOPE:


The mission of the Giyak Mishkawzid Shkagmikwe (GMS) is, in part, to use innovative business practices that incorporate indigenous knowledge and values and public involvement in order to increase the productivity of the Corporation.

These business ventures provide increased revenue and enhanced employment opportunities while assuring environmental, economic and social sustainability.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Education

  • Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or other relevant degree such as Management is preferred with experience in managing a First Nations Corporation of a similar size,

OR

  • At least seven years of experience in business and financial management with experience in managing a First Nations corporation of a similar
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and Executive Committees is preferred
  • Canadian citizenship is required

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proven success in managing and developing businesses.
  • Extensive knowledge in procurement and the mining industry.
  • Proven experience and success in executive leadership, and in the supervision and management of
  • Demonstrated success working with clients and partners and in building effective relationships within the
  • Ability to work effectively under nonnegotiable timelines and competing
  • Good knowledge of sources of capital and business programs that are available to First Nations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for the overall leadership, management and success of GMS business interests Maintain the level of professionalism expected.
  • Oversees business activities with the goal of optimizing social and financial returns while maintaining an awareness and understanding of potential
  • Required to attend Board of Directors meetings on a regular basis.
  • Engagement with Federal and Provincial ministries and other Bands, Tribal Councils and other significant First Nation organizations and local
  • Analyze opportunities, promote organizational wealth and maintain legislative compliance.

_Human Resources_


Responsible at the executive level for all human resources functions including recruitment, hiring, termination, performance, absence, compliance within the workplace of employment standards, health and safety legislation, human rights and other legislated workplace requirements at the provincial level.


_ Finance_
Responsible at the executive level for all aspects of the budgeting planning, preparation, proposal and implementation processes. Ensures that funds are managed as authorized and with the most efficient use being made of GMS resources.

The Chief Executive Officer ensures that all requirements are satisfied for reporting, receivables, payables, payroll, statutory remittances, in accordance with regulatory, statutory, and legal requirements.

At an executive level is responsible for the types and levels of insurance necessary for risk management (such as personal injury, property damage, professional and corporate liability and in accordance with legislated and regulatory requirements) are sourced and maintained.


_ Communications_


Prepares communications that inform the Board, community, business partners, other externals and the general public of the activities of GMC.
