Position Summary:


The Manager of Development & Communications is a member of the FVCDC's Leadership Team and is responsible for the overall management of the Centre's fundraising & communications.

This includes the development and implementation of an effective fundraising program, marketing communication, administration of fundraising tools and information, and engagement of donors, members, Board and staff committees, and volunteers.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Development Planning and Fundraising

  • Work with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to ensure the development and execution of the agency's short
- and long-term fundraising plans.

  • Research, develop and execute strategies and tactics for fundraising through major gifts, endowments, grants, service clubs, events, corporate support, planned giving, and other methods as appropriate.
  • Ensure recognition and reporting requirements are met for all fundraising initiatives.
  • Attend Board, committee and staff/leadership meetings to gather input and report on outcomes.
  • Liaise with and participate in relevant associations and organizations to remain current in the field.
  • Maintain an awareness of current fundraising programs, practices, trends, and potential supporters.
  • Lead and organize the planning and execution of fundraising events like our annual golf tournament, including securing sponsorships and mobilizing staff and external volunteers.
  • Develop and manage the Centre's donors and funders database.
  • Develop and supervise students.
Public Relations & Communications

  • Develop, implement, and monitor donor, member and volunteer communication & engagement programs including utilizing newsletters, the Centre's website and social media.
  • Work with the Executive Director to create awareness, educate, inform, and promote a strong positive profile of the Centre both internally and externally and promoting the mission of the Centre in the community.

Qualifications and Skills Required:


  • University degree or diploma in business, marketing, public relations, or fundraising. CFRE designation preferred.
  • Sound knowledge and a minimum of five to seven years' experience in a range of fundraising, event planning and marketing activities in a notforprofit environment.
  • Experience and success in obtaining major gifts, endowments, and corporate support, and in implementing planned giving campaigns.
  • Proven ability in identification of prospects, cultivation and solicitation of donors, and proposal development.
  • Knowledge of the current tax law, as it relates to charitable giving and understanding of nonprofit regulations and compliance issues.
  • High standards of integrity, ethics, judgement and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational, time management and relationship skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and act collaboratively to achieve results.
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills, including the ability to encourage and engage donors, members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Selfmotivated, creative, energetic, and entrepreneurial.

Working Conditions


The Manager of Development and Communications is a full-time (1.0 FTE) or part-time (0.8 FTE) position based in Abbotsford with hybrid work options, within a strong value-based organizational culture.
