    This course invites students to critically examine the interplay between technology and society. We will discuss how our interactions with technologies, including computers and the Internet, ICTs, social media, and other digital technologies, have become central for our understanding of contemporary social life. This course provides an overview of the sociology of technology, encompassed by various topics in which technology intersects with other areas of sociological inquiry, such as social stratification, community and networks, criminology and social control, work and labour, health and aging, and many others.

    Class Schedule:

    Mondays & Wednesdays, 1:00 pm-3:00 pm. The delivery method for this course is online synchronous.

    Minimum qualifications:

    PhD in Sociology required (or equivalent as demonstrated by refereed, published research). Strong academic record in area required.

    Preferred qualifications:

    Superior undergraduate teaching at the university level directly related to the area is strongly preferred.

    Description of Duties: This course will be taught online synchronous. The Sessional Lecturer in SOC356H1F is responsible for the preparation of the course syllabus, the preparation and presentation of course material. It is the duty of the Sessional Lecturer to attend regularly scheduled office hours. Sessional Lecturers are responsible for supervising the work of TA's assigned to this course; for preparing and evaluating course assignments, term tests, and the final examination; and for submitting final marks in accordance with University deadlines.
