  • Sonshine Children's Centre is the first licensed and accredited fulltime children's centre of its kind in Canada. It meets the unique needs of children who have experienced domestic violence or other forms of emotional trauma and provides them with the specialized and therapeutic support they need to grow into healthy and happy youth.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:


The Communications Specialist supports Sonshine Community Services by engaging in all marketing efforts, coordinating, and maintaining the agency's platforms to guarantee consistency in messaging and community engagement, pursuing funding opportunity through parallel strategies in planned giving, and sharing the unique impact and successes of the programs.


The campaigns and strategies held by the role run parallel to the Resource Development portfolio and are designed to enhance their effectiveness.

Additionally, awareness, storytelling, brand awareness, media relations and creative design are key aspects of the role.


The position reports to the Director of Resource Development and Communications and is an active collaborator with the various program departments of the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the achievement of operational fundraising goals through parallel strategic planning, scheduled projects and marketing objectives.
  • Manage and coordinate campaign creative and assets, execute parallel to fund development strategies and schedules.
  • Work in consultation with the Director of Resource Development to develop, implement, and evaluate internal and external communication.
  • Steward branding and mission by creating awareness and fostering the impact of the organization through strategic marketing.
  • Coordinate website administration and manage social media platforms.
  • Create and foster storytelling and client impact reports.
  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies.
  • Create and steward creative assets and branding such as graphics, videos, logos, and organization imagery.
  • Support external communications with media, community partners, stakeholder groups, and3rd party donors.
  • Write and design monthly enewsletters.
  • Write and manage advertisements on a variety of platforms, such as Google ads and community newsletters.
  • Support and add direction to events and special projects associated with fund raising and community engagement.
  • Support grant research and the creation of compelling grant proposals and key messages.
  • Responsibly and in a timely manner handle all administrative duties with diligence.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Required: A minimum of postsecondary Diploma in a related field.
  • Preferred: Marketing or Communications and/or Business Administration Degree.
  • Required: 2+ years' experience in fundraisingfocused or marketing/communications position.
  • Required: Minimum two years' experience in an administrative capacity.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit agency is an asset.
  • Experience working in a faithbased organization an asset.
  • Skills with Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
  • Experience with a donor management software, specifically Donor Perfect, is an asset.
  • Team player who can build and maintain relationships.
  • Excellent writing and creative skills.
  • Highly organized individual with excellent oral communication skills.
  • Experience and comfort with providing virtual and inperson presentations and/or tours.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple projects at once.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work outside of regular office hours when needed.
