The Parkland School Division currently has a
Regular Part-time Secretary I position available at
Greystone Centennial Middle School
, in Spruce Grove, Alberta
(pop. approx The position will be 17.5 hours **per week (0.5 FTE) from 8:30 until 12:00 Monday through Friday.
This position is not benefit elegible.

Greystone Centennial Middle School is a Middle School (Grades 5-9) serving approximately 525 students.

They believe that the middle years are a time to engage students in the learning community with high quality learning opportunities as well as extra-curricular activities.

Their motto is "Synergy, Creativity, and Citizenship' emphasizing the importance of collaboration for both staff and students at Greystone.


Function and Purpose of Position

Secretary I's may:

  • Work under the direction of the Principal and/or designate
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Must enjoy working with students, families and the general public
  • Must be flexible and prioritize responsibilities as required.

Administration and Instructional Support

  • Reception, switchboard, greeting visitors, answering and making phone calls
  • Providing general information and referring questions or concerns to the appropriate school staff
  • Opening and distributing mail
  • Photocopying and assembling documents
  • Maintaining accurate filing systems
  • Assist with processing student registration
  • Work collaboratively with staff to support student learning
  • Assist in medical, physical and behavioral needs
  • Participate in school emergency response
**Student Assistance and Personal Care

  • Provide support, assistance and supervision to students including but are not limited to contacting parents if needed, dispensing medication, monitor students' condition, etc.
  • Assists ill or injured students by: providing minor first aid as necessary, provide assistance to students who occupy the school infirmary and monitor the student's condition, contact parents, guardians, school administrator or others as necessary.

Supervise Students

  • Provide support, assistance and supervision to students as needed.

General Qualifications:


  • High school diploma and/or equivalency, plus general training in the operation of Microsoft Office components or equivalence
  • Experience with data systems, Google Docs and Power School is an asset
  • Emergency First Aid and NVCI training is an asset
  • Ability to establish a rapport quickly with staff, students and community
  • Able to perform in a highpaced and quickly changing workplace
  • Team atmosphere with the ability to be flexible is required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills is required
  • Equivalencies will be considered._

Secretaries are required to make good decisions to solve problems, assist student and parents, and provide support to the school's office.

It is essential to have great time management and organization skills to set competing priorities to meet time sensitive deadlines.

Effective team building and collaboration skills are required to keep the school's front office organized and meeting the needs of students, staff and parents.

A positive team player with a commitment to build relationships with other staff.


Physical Demands

  • The Secretary I may be required to routinely lift items weighting up to 50 lbs. Sometimes, heavier lifting may be required.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace, noisy environment with many interruptions throughout the day.
  • Ability to stand, bend, sit, and reach to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to provide assistance to students, staff and general public.
