Description
8 week placement, 35 hours per week.

  • Assist the Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the shelter on a daily basis
  • Perform daily evaluations of animals and their needs
  • Assist with the preparation and administration of medications and vaccines under direction of registered veterinary technician and/or veterinarian
  • Follow all policies and procedures of HSDR
  • Enter information into computer software program, ensuring all patient files are kept up to date
  • Assist with physical examination of animals, and animal restraint as needed
  • Assist surgical RVT and veterinarian during animal surgeries
  • Other tasks required in the day to day operation of the shelter
  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Must have been registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year
  • Experience working in a shelter environment or veterinary clinic
  • Excellent communication, computer and organizational skills
  • Strong animal care knowledge
  • Selfstarter and ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and adapt to change using strong organizational and time management skills
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license, clean driving record and reliable transportation
  • Employees will be required to work day and/or night shifts, must be reliable and able to work weekends

  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (required)
