8 week placement, 35 hours per week.- Assist the Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the shelter on a daily basis
- Perform daily evaluations of animals and their needs
- Assist with the preparation and administration of medications and vaccines under direction of registered veterinary technician and/or veterinarian
- Follow all policies and procedures of HSDR
- Enter information into computer software program, ensuring all patient files are kept up to date
- Assist with physical examination of animals, and animal restraint as needed
- Assist surgical RVT and veterinarian during animal surgeries
- Other tasks required in the day to day operation of the shelter
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Must have been registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year
- Experience working in a shelter environment or veterinary clinic
- Excellent communication, computer and organizational skills
- Strong animal care knowledge
- Selfstarter and ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and adapt to change using strong organizational and time management skills
- Valid Ontario Driver's license, clean driving record and reliable transportation
- Employees will be required to work day and/or night shifts, must be reliable and able to work weekends
