Job Summary:

Responsible for enforcement of the City by-laws by interpreting the by-laws and communicating these to the general public.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Deliver bylaw specific information to the public, City staff, elected officials, industry specific members and other law enforcement staff.
  • Investigate complaints, collect evidence and perform followup investigations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Conduct thorough complaint investigations in order to achieve appropriate resolutions. When deemed necessary, take legal action in order to bring violators into conformity/compliance, providing professional testimony and evidence for court and tribunal hearings.
  • Perform detailed inspections, maintaining accurate and detailed records/logs, databases of inspections.
  • Review bylaws, operational procedures and policies, and recommend amendments, changes, etc.
  • Attend Court to deal with bylaw matters and provide testimony as needed

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Must have graduated from a recognized community college in discipline of law enforcement, security administration, criminal justice studies, or a bylaw related course/major. Municipal Law Enforcement Officer certification is preferred
  • 35 years working experience in related discipline is preferred
  • Valid G driver's licence with access to a vehicle for work, compensation will be provided for mileage
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs and appropriate City software.
  • Primarily on the road conducting inspections and general patrols. Exposed to various temperatures and weather conditions. Also time spent in office environment.

Hourly Rate/Salary:
$ $ 54.81
