The Department of Ophthalmology's Eye Institute of Alberta (EIA) is a Center of Excellence for all levels of ophthalmic care.

It serves a population of over 3 million people in the Edmonton region, the northern areas of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, as well as the Northwest and Yukon Territories.

The hub for the EIA is the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences consists of over 40 staff ophthalmologists who work as physicians and surgeons, with teaching appointments within the FOMD at the University of Alberta.

Current areas of research strength include clinical trials, ocular genetics, and tela-ophthalmology.


Position


The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FOMD), University of Alberta, is recruiting for a tenure-track position cost-shared with Alberta Health Services, an ophthalmologist who has expertise in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Ocular Genetics and Adult Strabismus.

The Department's vision is to lead patient-centred eye care through outstanding and integrated service, education and research.


Duties
Clinical Duties: 40%


  • Teaching: 25%
  • Research: 30%
  • Administration: 5%

Minimum Qualifications

  • CPSA License
  • Existing AHS privileges in the Edmonton Zone
  • Residency training in Ophthalmology
  • Medical Doctor degree
  • Minimum 1 year Ocular Genetics Research Laboratory training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest and experience in medical education instruction and supervision
  • Interest and experience in supervising graduate students
  • Research experience in ocular genetics and adult strabismus
  • Interest and/or experience in academic leadership
