The Harley-Davidson Journeyman Technician/Certified Service Technician's job is to complete repairs, maintenance and customization of customer and dealer owned motorcycles with a high level of quality while helping maintain a smooth-running shop and keeping up to date with ongoing learning.
Additionally, a certified Technician assists apprentices and helps maintain shop operations.Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete service, repair, and maintenance of Harley Davidson motorcycles.
- Supervise the apprentice technicians and provide quality checks of their work.
- Assist service manager in tracking apprentice development.
- Frequently inspect shop tools for quality and effectiveness and report to the service manager any concerns.
- Monitor shop supplies, reporting when more need ordering, while paying attention to keeping costs low.
- Communicate effectively with service front staff regarding work being done.
- Competently use DealerVu, Partsmart, Digital Tech and other software necessary to effectively repair Harley Davidson motorcycles.
- Consistently work in a safe manner and identify unsafe conditions.
- Test ride vehicles as required always wearing a DOT helmet and following the local laws of the road.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace, leaving presentable at the end of each workday.
- Label and locate all take off parts as needed.
- Complete general shop duties as noted on the maintenance schedule set by the Service Manager.
- Maintain current with all relevant HDU courses.
- Participate in shop and dealership events.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
- Factory Harley Davidson training or equivalent postsecondary motorcycle repair training.
- Certification of Red Seal, HD Master Technician, or equivalent accomplishment.
- Minimum 3 years in the motorcycle industry.
- Technicians are required to own a basic set of tools that enable them to properly diagnose and service modern Harley Davidson motorcycles.
- Technicians are required to operate motorcycles during inclement weather.
- Extensive knowledge of motorcycles and available accessories.
- Willingness to learn and share knowledge.
- Apprentices are required to register and follow the Trade Qualification standards outlined by the Industry Training Authority.
- Valid, unrestricted class 6 license or equivalent from another jurisdiction.
- Clean and professional appearance.
- Genuine interest in customer service and satisfaction.
- Motorsport enthusiasm.
- Ensures that packaging, waste etc. is discarded and recycled responsibly.
- May be required to work overtime, offsite, outdoors, evenings and travel at times.
- Flexible hours and/or days may be required.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally required to bend, crouch, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs of material.
- Requires the ability to balance, push and ride a heavy weight motorcycle.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to use both hands.
- Can be required to stand for long periods.
Flexible Language Requirement:
- French not required
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Licence/Certification:
- Journeyman (preferred)
