    Support Staff Full-time New Position

    (First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

    Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator plans and implements a quality early childhood education program for children, assists in supporting students enrolled in ECE-related programs, models the philosophy and Program Statement of the ECE-related programs, and develops and maintains professional relationships with families. The ECE is responsible for upholding the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) along with the guidelines in the staff handbook.

    The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. This position will work on-site five days per week at the Doon campus, located at 299 Doon Valley Drive in Kitchener.

    Responsibilities:

  • Planning and adapting the program and environment to meet the needs of individual children and families, as well as the group
  • Implementing positive and child-initiated learning experiences; Interacting positively with children and adults
  • Making use of assessment tools
  • Promoting and ensuring the health and safety and well-being of the children
  • Providing ongoing supervision of all play areas and all activities/routines that occur
  • Planning and implementing daily experiences in all areas of the program, responsive to the needs, interests, and capabilities of the children
  • Initiating the need for additional resource consultants and observations
  • Creating pedagogical documentation
  • Upholding the Child Care and Early Years Act and the Centre's staff handbook
  • Modelling appropriate teaching strategies as taught in the Program
  • Communicating with students and faculty in a respectful and helpful manner
  • Giving students verbal feedback and sharing the feedback with the supervisor responsible for completing evaluations
  • Contributing to the ECE related academic programs
  • Participating in the initial intake process
  • Meeting with families privately at their request or when it is necessary to share more detailed information about the child's progress
  • Communicating respectfully while upholding confidentiality
  • Providing consultation and support when necessary
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings
  • Sharing knowledge and expertise with external consultants
  • Reporting unusual situations such as accidents, parent requests/concerns, changes with children or ECE students, and changes to schedules to the Supervisor
  • Participating in professional development
  • Qualifications:

  • Two-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education required
  • Experience working in the early years sector required
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) required
  • Standard First Aid and CPR training required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Creative and flexible, able to participate in solving problems
