    The Opportunity

    We are currently looking for a Shift Supervisor to join our team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the generating station and its equipment, supervising and developing operating staff, maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, and actively managing safety performance.

    Key elements of this role include:

    As a Shift Supervisor:

    • You will be responsible on a shift basis for the safe and efficient operation of a thermal generating station including boiler, turbine generator and all associated auxiliary equipment.
    • You will create a work environment that encourages employees to expand their knowledge and skill base thereby adding value to the business.
    • You will provide supervision and development of operating staff, co-ordinate with other shifts and departments and maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
    • You must be committed to the safety program and pro-actively manage safety performance and culture.
    • You must demonstrate your ongoing commitment to and participate in the capabilities and leadership development processes.
    • You must be able to work effectively as a member of the production team and demonstrate participation in and support for the Competency Based Training program.
    • You will be responsible for personal safety and that of your co-workers and those under your direction by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. As well, you will be responsible for solid environmental performance of the plant and support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives.
    • It is the responsibility of the Shift Supervisor to ensure that NSPI is in compliance with all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to (area applicable to NERC requirements).

    This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

    These skills will make you successful:

    To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

    • You must have valid 1st or 2nd Class Power Engineer certification. Knowledge of other trades or certification in other trades will be considered an asset.
    • 8 to 10 years' experience in Thermal Plant operation is required with preference to those possessing supervisory experience.
    • You must possess leadership abilities as well as effective communication, computer and interpersonal skills.
    • You must be self-motivated and adaptable to change.
    • You must be familiar with all aspects of a high-pressure thermal generating station.
